Best paper awards EuroSys 2021 to Felipe Huici (NEC Laboratories Europe GmbH, Germany) with the paper Unikraft: Fast, Specialized Unikernels the Easy Way.
The work of Felipe Huici is based on the Unikraft Linux Foundation open-source project, a fully modular and librarized unikernel that aims to provide outstanding performance while making it easy to port off-the-shelf applications into unikernels. In particular, he describes how Unikraft fully modularizes OS primitives so that it is easy to customize the unikernel and include only relevant components, exposes a set of composable, performance-oriented APIs in order to make it easy for developers to obtain high performance and aims for POSIX compatibility, already supporting over 130+ syscalls.
EuroSys is a premier international forum for presenting computer systems research, broadly construed. EuroSys goals are to act as a focal point for researchers in the area of systems and to contribute to increase the visibility of systems research in Europe by providing forums for researchers and practitioners to meet and communicate. EuroSys operates exclusively for educational and scientific purposes to promote excellence in Computer Systems education, research and industry in Europe but also reaching out to other systems researchers worldwide.
